About Project Nehemiah
Nehemiah was a servant of God who
challenged his people to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Likewise, project Nehemiah is
established to challenge fellow Christian brothers and sisters to help our church build or
purchase its own facilities.
Our History
Our church was established in a living
room in Artesia, California by less than ten students in 1979. We are now a congregation
of over 300. This first organized Ethiopian church in the diaspora is still without its
own worshipping facilities.
Our Goal
Our goal is to buy or build our own
church so that we can continue to serve our congregation and the Ethiopian community in
the greater Los Angeles area.
Current Financial Standing
As of December 31,1998, we have
collected $301,756.00 towards this project. Our estimated cost of the
project is $1,250,000.00. Our church will soon not be able to utilize the location we
are currently using to perform our church services. We would like to continue, and indeed,
increase our services to our community in the areas of worship, children's programs, youth
service, counseling and other community service.
